ICT: Ormiston Park AcaDemy

The background
To support the academy’s ICT head of department during an Ofsted inspection.

The challenge
We received a call from the principal of Ormiston Park Academy to say they had just heard that Ofsted was visiting two days later to conduct a full inspection. The principal was concerned about the ICT department, because its head was new to the post and there were issues that needed to be addressed.

The solution
We made ourselves immediately available to the academy, helping the ICT’s head of department to plan lessons for the three days Ofsted would be present, and discussing ways to engage with students more effectively. During the inspection we were there in person, giving challenging students one-to-one time so the teachers could focus on their lessons without interruptions.

The results
The principal and her leadership team were able to focus their efforts elsewhere in the school and Ofsted deemed the academy Outstanding. The ICT head of department felt that the right support had been put in place and that lessons were better structured. We received a lovely bunch of flowers and a card from the principal, showing her appreciation.
